Urba​n Forestry

Silv-Econ is extensively involved in urban forestry work related to municipal road and infrastructure expansion, invasive insects, municipal tree management planning and tree planting.

Tree Preservation Plans and Inspection

Silv-Econ has extensive experience in preparing tree preservation plans for urban developments and for road construction. These projects involved tree inventory and health assessment, review of engineering drawings and grading plans to identify potential impacts to trees, designing tree protection measures, identifying appropriate compensation for impacted trees and monitoring during and after construction. Examples of our work include:

  • Prepared tree preservation plans for York Region’s Emergency Medical Services (EMS) in Newmarket, and Town of Georgina for new EMS stations,
  • Tree inventory, preservation plan & inspections for Bloomington Heights sub-division, Aurora,
  • ​Tree inventory and preservation plan for the City of Barrie under a Class Environmental Assessment for reconstruction of Huronia Road, Barrie,
  • Developed Natural Heritage Evaluation reports to accompany development submissions on the Oak Ridges Moraine as required by the Oak Ridges Moraine Conservation Plan.

Tree By-law

The Professional Foresters at Silv-Econ Ltd. have provided expertise on forest conservation by-law matters for Municipalities and Counties since 1998. Our work related to these projects include:

  • Reviewing and auditing of proposed and/or completed harvest activities​ to determine compliance with a by-law,
  • Preparation of reports for submission into a court of law,
  • Provide expert testimony in a court of law,
  • Development of reforestation/restoration plans
