Silv-Econ Ltd seeks a full-time laboratory and field assistant for a term position starting in late April/early May to August 2018 (start and end dates negotiable). This position is suitable for internship students.

Job description
Duties may be split between assisting with our biological control research program and assisting with various forestry field projects:

  • Biological control research activities include assisting with rearing insects at our laboratory, growing and collecting plant material, field data collection and other laboratory and office tasks as required.
  • Forestry field work may include tree planting, assisting with forest inventories, street tree inventories and tree marking. Assisting with other company projects and activities as required.

Laboratory is located in Aurora ON, field work is throughout southern Ontario.

Core capabilities
Comfortable handing live insects
Organized and detail oriented
Able to do repetitive tasks
Responsible, and comfortable working without direct supervision in laboratory and field environments

Skills that would be an asset
Insect rearing experience
Experience with rearing other organisms, or experience with laboratory work
Experience in forestry or other field work
Competency with Microsoft Office Suite

Mandatory requirements
Daily access to a vehicle for work
Work outdoors in a range of weather conditions
Weekend work is required
Personal protective equipment must be worn for field work.
